What does an intimacy coordinator do?
An intimacy coordinator is responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of cast and crew during scenes involving physical intimacy, sexual activity, nudity, breastfeeding, childbirth, or other forms of intimate content. They work closely with directors, actors, and other members of the production team to establish clear agreements and ensure that performers' boundaries are respected.
In addition, an intimacy coordinator contributes to the storytelling and choreography of intimate scenes, helping to communicate the narrative as effectively as possible. The role is therefore twofold: on the one hand, coordinating intimate scenes and safeguarding boundaries, and on the other, contributing creatively by exploring artistic and narrative possibilities within those scenes.
What training have I completed?
In 2020, I graduated with a Master's degree in Sexology from KU Leuven and began working as a clinical sexologist. My passion for film inspired me to combine this profession with training in filmmaking at RITCS. In 2024, I graduated with a Master's degree in Audiovisual Arts (Directing).
Both educational backgrounds allow me to approach intimacy coordination from both a psychological and artistic perspective. As intimacy coordination is still a relatively new profession and there are currently no dedicated training programs in Belgium, I continue to expand my expertise through specialized workshops offered by Theatrical Intimacy Education (TIE, USA).

How does a collaboration work?
When you contact me regarding a project, I always begin by reading the script. Based on this, I prepare an overview of all intimate scenes and identify which scenes may benefit from intimacy coordination, both during preparation and on set. I also review the scenes from a storytelling perspective and provide any relevant questions, comments, or suggestions.
During pre-production, I work closely with the director to discuss the narrative purpose of the intimate scenes and review the proposed shot list and visual approach. I also contact the actors involved to discuss the scenes, explore their boundaries, and address any questions or concerns they may have. From the outset, I make it clear that I am available whenever they need support. If desired, I can also be involved during the casting process to discuss the intimate aspects of specific scenes with potential cast members. In many cases, intimate scenes will require rehearsals. During these sessions, I work with the actors to develop and document clear choreography, ensuring that everyone knows exactly what will happen on set.
During filming, my primary responsibility is to coordinate and support intimate scenes. The exact nature of this support varies from one production to another, as I believe it is important to adapt to the needs of both cast and crew. I provide any necessary modesty garments or protective equipment, help ensure that closed-set protocols are respected in collaboration with the First Assistant Director (1st AD), and continuously monitor the well-being of the performers throughout the process.
During post-production, I remain available as a point of contact. Where appropriate, I may follow up with actors to check in on their well-being. This only occurs if the actors express a need for additional support or if there appears to be something that warrants further discussion. I can also be involved in the editing process and provide a final review before picture lock, acting as an advocate for the actors and ensuring that previously agreed-upon boundaries have been respected.
Throughout the entire production process, I report relevant information to the production team, while respecting confidentiality and anonymity where necessary. I also prepare concise scene summaries and documentation for each shooting day, which are shared with production and the 1st AD to ensure that everyone is fully informed and aligned.
